Description:
This lecture will examine the FODMAPs, the FODMAP diet and its’ implementation. The lecture will begin with defining FODMAPs from both a chemical perspective as well as examining how FODMAPs interact with the gastrointestinal tract to elicit their physiological effects in vivo. We will then examine the current literature to determine if altering the intake of FODMAP-containing foods is an effective tool to use to decrease GI distress in a wide array of individuals. The lecture will conclude by assessing various protocols used to implement the FODMAP diet.
